HUNTS POINT — Watch your back, kale, there's a new leafy green coming to dominate the holiday dinner table — as part of the 30 million pounds of veggies that rolled off the trucks at Hunts Point Produce Market in time for Thanksgiving.

BroccoLeaf — the leaf of the broccoli plant that could be the next salad super food, was included in the 15,000 tons of produce that passed through the warehouse Monday.

The Monday before Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year at the market, with workers handling tons of holiday staples like sweet potatoes, apples and cranberries.

The food then gets distributed throughout the region for New Yorkers to enjoy during the holidays.

Workers at the produce market handle three times the amount of food on Monday that they normally do and essentially have to fit five days worth of work into three, but many said they do not mind the busy day.

Jose Pino, who has been working at the market for seven years and was busy stacking green tomatoes, said he enjoys the flurry of activity around Thanksgiving because it helps the day go by quickly.

"The time passes by fast," he said. "Everybody buys a lot of tomatoes."
