Monday

Jewish Museum’s “A Closer Look” Gallery Talk: Unorthodox

Where: Jewish Museum, 1109 Fifth Ave., Upper East Side
When: 1:30 to 2 p.m.

Explore and learn about 200 works by more than 50 contemporary artists who do not stick to artistic conventions and traditions.

Ancient Greek Myths

Where: Ottendorfer Library, 135 Second Ave., East Village 
When: 4 p.m.

Kids can learn ancient Greek myths through epic poems and tales in this program presented by the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. Each session includes a hands-on activity.

Willie Cooper discusses his books "The Forgotten Legacy" and "The Forgotten 14"

Where: Central Library, 89-11 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica
When: 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Author Willie Cooper will tell the stories of his great-great-grandfather Bount Barnhill and his great-grandfather George W. Reid, who fought in the brave 36th Infantry United States Colored Troops during the Civil War. He will also discuss the history of the 200,000 black soldiers and 20,000 black sailors who fought for the Union to defeat slavery. Books will be available for sale and signing. The event is free and registration is not required.

Celebrate Brooklyn Heights’ Designation as NYC’s First Historic District

Where: Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont St., Brooklyn Heights 
When: 6:30 p.m.

Brooklyn Heights was designated the first historic district in New York 50 years ago on Nov. 23 and the Brooklyn Historical Society will be celebrating the occasion in style with cocktails and discussions with experts on architectural history and preservation. Tickets are priced at $100 for general admission and $80 for members.  

Love Not Hate Rally Against Atlah Church

Where: Corner of 123rd St. and Lenox Ave., East Harlem 
When: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Harlem residents, including some elected officials and members of the LGBT community, are going to protest the church's homophobic messages it writes on an outdoor sign. A growing group of residents have been protesting the anti-gay messages on the sign all year.

Get in the Holiday Spirit and Watch “Tree Man” the Documentary

Where: Goddard Riverside, 647 Columbus Ave. at W. 91st St., Upper West Side
When: 7 p.m.

The documentary chronicles the five weeks that one tree seller spends on the Upper West Side each Christmas season selling Christmas trees. He travels from Quebec, leaving his family behind for those weeks, but finds a different sort of family and warmth here in the neighborhood. General admission is $5 and admission for children under 12 is free.

Secret Science Club Presents Particle Physicist Kyle Cranmer

Where: The Bell House, 149 Seventh St., Gowanus
When: Doors open at 7:30 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.

Join physicist Kyle Cranmer for a free talk on the atom-smashing Large Hadron Collider, “the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator,” according to the Bell House website. Themed cocktails will help enhance your understanding of this science lecture. Event is 21 and over.

NYPL Free Winter Concert

Where: The steps of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building New York Public Library on Fifth Ave. and W. 42nd St.
When: 5:15 p.m.

The New York Public Library is ringing in the holiday season with an outdoor performance of holiday tunes by a high school choir 50 students strong from Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Queens.

Queens Library Presents Jelani Cobb

Where: Manducatis Rustica, 46-35 Vernon Blvd., Long Island City
When: 6 to 8 p.m.

Author and professor Jelani Cobb will discuss the history of Jamaica High School and its impact on race and the civil rights movement in Queens. The lecture is part of the “Queens Library Presents” series; tickets are $10.

NYPL Book Club: “To Kill A Mockingbird”

Where: New York Public Library, 175 North End Ave., Battery Park City
When: 6:15 p.m.

If you have a hankering to discuss Harper Lee’s classic To Kill A Mockingbird and its controversial counterpart Go Set a Watchman, head over to BPC’s public library for its Book Club meeting this month.

Videology Movie Trivia     

Where: Videology, 308 Bedford Ave., Williamsburg
When: 8:30 p.m.

Show off your best cinematic knowledge through six rounds of movie trivia at Videology. Everything from general knowledge and film clips to Nicolas Cage quotes are fair game. Each winning team gets a free round of drinks.

Wednesday

Thanksgiving: Welcoming the Stranger

Where: Judson Memorial Church, 55 Washington Square South, Greenwich Village
When: 7 p.m.

The Village’s annual interfaith Thanksgiving service brings multiple faith groups together to worship on Thanksgiving Eve. Prayers in English and Hebrew, music by the Village Temple’s Children’s Choir, among others, and dance and spoken word performances are in store for this year’s event, co-hosted by Judson Memorial Church and the Village Temple. Other participants include St. Francis Xavier, Least of These Church, the Bhatkti Center and the Baba Markham Shah Lobana Sikh Center, as well as the Medicine Man of the Matinecock Tribe of Long Island, Reggie Herb Dancer Ceaser, who is slated to lead a Native prayer of thanks and play the flute. The hosts are raising money this year to support an immigrant family through the New Sanctuary Coalition, an interfaith group of congregations, organizations and people who band together to protect families threatened by detention and deportation.

Thanksgiving Israeli Dance Marathon

Where: 92nd Street Y, 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue, Upper East Side
When: 8:30 p.m.

Dance the night away at 92Y’s Thanksgiving-themed dance marathon. It’s the organization’s annual Israeli folk dancing bash. Tickets are $25.

Thanksgiving Eve Jamz With DJ Bengey

Where: Union Hall, 702 Union St., Park Slope
When: 10 p.m.

The night before Thanksgiving is the best party night of the year, and DJ Bengey will help you dance away your pre-holiday stress at this free dance party.

Thursday 

Prospect Park Track Club Turkey Trot

Where: Prospect Park
When: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Spend Thanksgiving morning on a 5-mile run through Prospect Park. Registration is $30. The top three finishers go home with a delicious pie.

Harlem Turkey Trot

Where: Central Park North and 110th St., Central Harlem 
When: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

A free run on Thanksgiving morning with 5K and 10K options for all runners. Strollers and families are welcome to run together. There will also be a raffle for free swag like Under Armour gear.
