ELMHURST — A 33-year-old man was shot repeatedly early Monday after leaving a bar on Roosevelt Avenue, according to police.

The victim, who has not been identified, was leaving a restaurant on Roosevelt Avenue, near Elbertson Street, roughly 5 a.m. Monday when he was approached by another man, police said.

The gunman began arguing with the victim, who was with a group of friends, then fired multiple shots into his torso.

The gunman fled and is still on the loose, police said. The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and is in critical condition.

It's not clear what started the argument.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the restaurant the victim exited before the shooting.
