BROOKLYN — A man was fatally shot in the head in a Williamsburg apartment Wednesday night during a possible gang dispute, police said.

Shaun West, 36, was waiting for a woman to visit him in apartment 5A of 626 Wythe Ave., in the Taylor-Wythe Houses near Wilson Street, about 9:41 p.m. when two men burst in and shot him, an NYPD spokesman said.

West, who lived nearby on South 9th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The attackers fled and were not immediately arrested, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear who the apartment belonged to.

Family were hearbroken by the death of West, who they said was a devoted father.

"He was a great guy. He loved his son. He loved everybody. He was very ambitious, very motivated toward his son and himself," said his brother, Kevin West, 33.

"He'd make you laugh. He always had a good spirit," the brother added.

Friends remembered West as flamboyant and caring.

"He was a real good guy. He was as cool as the other side of the pillow. Everyone called him 'Smooth' because he was flashy. No one walked as smooth as him," said Niya Newton, 39, a longtime friend.

Newton said she saw West on Wednesday, walking with his son and his son's mother.

"They were pushing the stroller across the street. He loved his son," Newton said. "I really didn't think that'd be the last time I'd see him."
