GRAMERCY — A drunken woman walked through oncoming traffic with her 5-year-old son in hand — prompting witnesses to pull them out of harm's way twice before police finally arrived to arrest her, according to the NYPD.

The 31-year-old woman was spotted weaving through traffic with her son near East 14th Street and Second Avenue while visibly intoxicated at roughly 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, police said.

Witnesses told police nearby good Samaritans intervened at least twice before a neighbor finally called police and took her and the child into an apartment, according to authorities.

When police arrived at the apartment at about 1 a.m., the woman was passed out and unresponsive. She was handcuffed and taken to Beth Israel Medical Center, police said.

Later the woman admitted that she had been drinking, in direct violation of a court order issued in June that specifically prohibits her from using drugs or alcohol in the presence of her son, according to a statement from one of the arresting officers.

She was also already on probation for a DUI arrest that happened exactly one year before on Oct. 31, 2014, according to court records.

Prosecutors charged the woman with reckless endangerment, two counts of endangering a child, and criminal contempt for violating a court order, according to records. She was released without bail and is due back in court on Dec. 7.

It's not immediately clear what happened with the child following the arrest. Information regarding the woman's attorney was not available.
