FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A man tried to stab a CVS employee after grabbing a case of Red Bull, then later spit in an NYPD officer's face, telling the policeman that he had HIV, the Manhattan DA office said.

Police said 49-year-old Patrick Hale swiped a case of the energy drink from the drugstore at 129 Fulton St. at about 11:00 a.m. on Monday.

As he was trying to leave the store with the case, an employee tried to stop him. Hale then took out a "metal object" and swung at the employee, saying "I will f**king stab you," according to a criminal complaint from the Manhattan DA's office.

After Hale was arrested, he told a police officer: "I have HIV and if I don't get out of here soon I'm going to spit in your face," according to the criminal complaint.

Moments later, he spit in the officer's face.

Hale is being held on $50,000 bail.

His Legal Aid attorney, as well as CVS, did not immediately return requests for comment.
