Off-Duty NYPD Sgt. Punched Man After Billy Joel Concert at MSG, Sources Say

MANHATTAN — An off-duty NYPD sergeant was charged Wednesday with punching a man outside Madison Square Garden following a fight at a Billy Joel concert — three months after the incident took place, according to officials and sources.

Joseph Brennan, 30, hit and pushed the man, whose identity was not immediately released, outside the arena at 8 Pennsylvania Plaza, near West 33rd Street, about 10 p.m. Aug. 7, police and prosecutors said.

The NYPD's Internal Affairs Bureau investigated the case, according to court documents online.

The victim suffered a cut to his forehead and an another injury to his shoulder, Manhattan prosecutors said.

Brennan was arrested about 8 a.m. in the Fifth Precinct, which house th, police said.

He was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court the same day and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor harassment charges, prosecutors said. He was sentenced to a conditional discharge and released, prosecutors said.
