Monday

Rolos & Icons Exhibition

Where: 103 Allen St., Lower East Side
When: noon to 7 p.m.

For this art exhibition, Washington Heights and Inwood’s artist, M. Tony Peralta, showcases several prominent Latina figures, including Lynda “Wonder Woman” Carter and Dora the Explorer, with hair rollers. The series is meant to empower young women of color.

Gloria Steinem reads from “My Life on the Road”

Where: Barnes and Noble, 33 E. 17th St., Union Square
When: 7 p.m.

Feminist icon and Ms. Magazine founder Gloria Steinem will read from her book “My Life on the Road,” a memoir of her fight for equality and the sense of restlessness that drove her.

“St. Marks is Dead”

Where: Cooper Union’s The Great Hall, 7 East 7th St., East Village
When: 8 p.m.

Ada Calhoun — an author, journalist and East Village native — will talk about her book, “St. Marks Is Dead: The Many Lives of America’s Hippest Street” and trace the street’s history from its Dutch farmland origins to its current state.

Tuesday

Westbeth Flea Market

Where: Westbeth basement, 463 West St., West Village
When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Westbeth is a collection of massive affordable housing buildings that have housed artists for decades, so the fact that their flea market is consistently a goldmine of beautiful, funny and strange objects, art, clothing and books is to be expected. Their motto: “Collect like an artist.” Now in its 31st year, the flea market has rebounded from some devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy. Tuesday is the first day, and the flea market is held intermittently on various days over the following week. Check the website for the schedule.

Outdoor Origami

Where: Park East at One Penn Plaza, on Seventh between 33rd and 34th Streets, Midtown
When: 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Get a hands-on, free origami lesson with a long-time instructor. All materials are provided.

Pulitzer Prize-winner David Auburn at BookCourt

Where: BookCourt, 163 Court St., Cobble Hill
When: 7 p.m.

David Auburn, who won a Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize for his play “Proof,” will host a reading and audience Q&A session for his latest drama “Lost Lake.”

Williamsburg Spelling Bee

Where: Pete’s Candy Store, 709 Lorimer St., Williamsburg
When: 7:30 p.m.

Put your skills to the test at this free adult spelling bee, hosted by Bobby Blue and Jen Dziura.

Wednesday

Hiding in Plain Sight: The Brooklyn Trial of KGB Spy Rudolf Abel

Where: Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont St., Brooklyn Heights   
When: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Listen to the true story behind Tom Hanks’ and Steven Spielberg’s latest film “Bridge of Spies” as a panel of experts discusses the case of KGB spy Rudolf Abel. Tickets are priced at $5; free for BHS members.

New Play Launch: “Lost Lake”

Where: Book Culture on Columbus, 450 Columbus Ave. at West 82nd Street, Upper West Side
When: 7 p.m.

The playwright David Auburn will make a second appearance in the city, this time uptown leading a discussion related to the launch of his new play. Actress and writer Halley Feiffer will join the converation. The event is free and open to the public.

Monthly Jazz Jam

Where: Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing
When: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

All are invited to join this monthly jam session, held on the first Wednesday of every month. Listen to the Queens Jazz OverGround, a collective of Queens-based musicians, and other groups. Those who play can jam with peers, others can just listen and relax. Tickets are $10; free for those who play.

Thursday

Autumn Foliage Walk

Where: Randall’s Island
When: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A guided tour along the waterfront to view the fall colors in the horticultural areas and wetlands. There will also be a bit of science mixed in as well. Participants will be able to learn why leaves change color, the chemical representations of each color and why leaves of different species turn different hues. Find directions to the walk here.

A Pet with Paws Trunk Show

Where: The Dog Store, 150 E. 61st St., Upper East Side
When: 4 to 7 p.m.

A Pet with Paws founder Ann Greenberg will showcase her fashionable, eco-friendly pet product line, including doggie backpacks, pet carriers and clutch wristlets with baggies to clean up after your pooch.

French Culture Fest

Where: Albertine, 972 5th Ave. between 78th and 79th streets, Upper East Side
When: 7:30 p.m.

Join in on the kick off the Albertine’s French Culture Fest on Friday with Ethiopian-American novelist Dinaw Mengestu, journalist Kamel Daoud and Francine Prose, the former president of PEN American Center, in a discussion about literature, post-colonial heritage and writing in a secondary language. This is the first event of the festival, which continues through the weekend.

Sac’s Place Annual Pig Roast

Where: Sac’s Place, 2541 Broadway, Astoria   
When: 7:30 p.m.

Join this Italian eatery for its annual pig roast. Reservations to the feast cost $55 and include roast pig, antipasto, asparagus, roasted potatoes, yams, stuffed cabbage, homemade dessert, coffee and tea. Call 718-204-5002 to save your spot. A credit card deposit is required.
