GREENWICH VILLAGE — Herbivores looking for a bite near Union Square got a new option this week.

Fast food joint VBurger opened just below the square on Wednesday, slinging animal-friendly versions of American classics at 815 Broadway, between 11th and 12th streets.

"The idea for VBurger is to give people an easy way to enjoy vegan food without overwhelming them with unrecognizable dishes,” co-founder Reese Martin said.

Chefs Eli Arazi and Rick Babich are serving up creations like the Einstein Burger, made of cauliflower and potatoes; the Portobello steak sandwich, with a marinated mushroom served on ciabatta; a classic spicy black bean burger, and the “fried unchik’n sandwich.”

The menu also includes fast food staples like fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings — all fried in organic canola oil. Chocolate, vanilla, or cherry vegan milkshakes will also be available.

“We are serving up family favorites, but in a healthy and animal-friendly way, and the outcome is delicious," Martin said.
