THE BRONX — A woman was killed and six people were injured after a delivery truck slammed into scaffolding near a bus stop in the South Bronx Monday afternoon, according to officials and sources.

The Coca-Cola delivery truck lost control after colliding with an SUV and jumped the curb at East 138th Street near Bruckner Boulevard at about 3:20 p.m., a fire department spokesman and witnesses said.

The mother of five, who police identified as Cheniqua Silva, was waiting for the BX33 bus when she was hit.

"I was just talking to her," said her visibly shaken husband, Orlando Silver. "She was such a sweet and caring woman."

A colleague of the mother said she worked at a nearby bakery.

"We are very sorry about what happened," said the coworker.

A witness said he saw the SUV swerve to avoid a group of motorcycles who appeared to be racing each other on Bruckner Boulevard when it swerved into the side of the truck.

"I see people running, jumping," said Ericsson Padilla, 48.

The truck then slammed directly into Silva, Padilla added, pinning her under the vehicle.

He and a friend ran over to try and help, but the woman appeared to have been killed instantly.

"It sucks…seeing it," Padilla said. "I’m trying to eat, but I can’t hold nothing down."

It was not immediately clear how many of the other six people injured may have also been waiting for the bus. They were all taken to Lincoln Hospital with minor injuries.

The NYPD is investigating the incident, but no criminality is suspected as of now, police said.
