FLATIRON — This art is moving on up.

A New York street artist has installed “vertical galleries” of his work in the elevator shafts of three Flatiron office buildings, enlivening the typically mundane up-and-down trips of riders with fleeting glimpses of his paintings.

Artist Skott Marsi installed 70 paintings in the shafts of office buildings at 15 W. 27th St, 19 W. 24th St. and 45 W. 27th St. that are visible to elevator passengers through floor-to-ceiling glass panels in the back of each elevator car.

The paintings — which depict New York themes like Al Pacino, the Statue of Liberty and King Kong rendered in Marsi’s graffiti-influenced style — come in and out of view as the elevators travel, according to the organizer.

The works were commissioned by the real estate group Kaufman Organization.

The gallery will celebrate its opening at 15 W. 27th St. from 8 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, and will give away free canvas squares to the first 100 guests.
