UPPER EAST SIDE — A burglar armed with a pair of scissors was chased down by police and finally caught on the 5 train tracks of the East 86th Street subway station on Sunday, according to the NYPD.

At roughly 11:40 a.m., a 50-year-old homeless man entered the lobby of a building at East 84th Street and Lexington Avenue and grabbed a purse from behind a desk and fled, according to the NYPD. Police would not provide an exact address.

Firefighters who happened to be in the area tried to stop the man as he was running away, but he threatened them with a pair of scissors, according to authorities.

The suspect then ran into the East 86th Street station and onto the 5 train tracks, where police arrested him and took away the scissors, police said.

He was charged with burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment, according to police.

He was previously arrested for burglary in 2007. He was released on parole in January this year, according to New York State Department of Correctional Services.

The arrest was made by officers Randoncic and Wong, according to a tweet from the 19th Precinct.
