Monday, October 5

Birding in Bryant Park

Where: Bryant Park, 42nd St. and 6th Ave., Midtown
When: 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

This tour will introduce bird lovers to the feathered friends that call the park home, as well as the migratory birds that are just stopping by.

Historical Talk on the Salem Witch Trials

Where: Greater Astoria Historical Society, 35-20 Broadway, 4th Floor, Astoria   
When: 7 p.m.

Genealogist and historian Leslie Wickham — herself a descendant of one of the women accused of witchcraft in Salem, MA — will discuss this frightening time in our nation’s history. Attendance is $5.

Nate Wooley Quintet at Threes Brewing

Where: Tiny Montgomery (inside Threes Brewing), 333 Douglass St., Gowanus
When: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The quintet will be playing music from their new album, “(Dance To) The Early Music,” a play on early recordings by Wynton Marsalis. There’s a $10 cover.

Tuesday, October 6

Senior Fitness Yoga

Where: Thomas Jefferson Park near 112th St. and First Ave., East Harlem
When: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

A free yoga class for New Yorkers 60 and older. The class takes places every Tuesday and Thursday in the park until the end of the month.

Drunk Ghost Hunting in Prospect Park

Where: Meet at Johnny Mack’s, 1114 Eighth Ave., Park Slope
When: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Brooklyn Paranormal Society, a group of “inexperienced investigators” will meet to knock back a few beers at Johnny Mack’s bar before venturing into Prospect Park on the hunt for spirits. They’ll visit the scene of four murders and may go to the park’s Quaker cemetery (where actor Montgomery Clift is buried) if they can get permission.

Jacques Pépin and Anthony Bourdain: Home and Away

Where: 92nd Street Y, East 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue, Upper East Side
When: 7:30 p.m.

World renowned chef Jacques Pépin and Anthony Bourdain of “Parts Unknown” will celebrate Pépin’s 80th birthday and his new and final show “Jacques Pépin: Heart & Soul” as they discuss and demonstrate recipes. Tickets begin at $51.

“Stardust Memories” screening, with book signing of “Woody Allen: A Retrospective”

Where: Nitehawk Cinema, 136 Metropolitan Ave., Williamsburg
When: 7:30 p.m.

Nitehawk screens Woody Allen movie “Stardust Memories” in honor of Tom Shone’s new retrospective book on the writer-and-director’s work. The movie itself, released in 1980, similarly follows a character who looks back on his life’s work — and life’s relationships.

Wednesday, October 7

Lil’ Studio Art Workshop

Where: Studio Museum of Harlem at 144 West 125th St.
When: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The one-hour workshop is designed for children between 2 and 4 and their parents. Local musician Terri Davis will host the musical workshop that connects sounds and color. The event and refreshments are free but registration is required.

SoHo Design District Short Films Walk   

Where: 10 design showrooms in SoHo along Wooster and Greene streets
When: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This is the second year that a group of design showrooms in SoHo are organizing under the heading SoHo Design District in an effort to preserve artistry in the neighborhood is partnering with the Architecture and Design Film Festival. A week before the actual six-day festival, the ADFF Short Films Walk has ten showrooms screening shorts from the ADFF archives on a loop so people can stroll through and watch while partaking of free food and drinks. The first 250 people to visit more than five showrooms get a free ticket to any of the festival’s screenings. For free admission to the walk, RSVP at the festival’s website.

Wine 101 & Wine 102

Where: SquareWine & Spirits, 24-20 Jackson Ave., Long Island City,
When: 7:30 p.m.

Led by a Certified Sommelier, this two-part class will teach the ins and outs of wine, including tasting techniques and pairings. The second class — Wine 102 — will be held on Oct. 22. Purchase entry to both classes for a total of $49.99.

So Far Gone: Drake Night with DJ sets

Where: Baby’s All Right, 146 Broadway, Williamsburg
When: 11:30 p.m.

If you ever wished every song at the club was an Aubrey song, this will get you charged up. It’s Drake all night, according to the description: “The idea is that we’ll play Drake till someone passes out from sheer exuberance, or starts crying tears into their drink over lost lovers or past spurned advances toward strippers.”

Thursday, October 8

Fall Garden Tour of the High Line

Where: The High Line, specific location provided via email.
When: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Mosey along the High Line with a guided garden tour on Thursday morning that will highlight the fall bloomers. The tour is free and open to the public but you have to RSVP ahead of time via email to get the specific location where the tour will begin.

Author Brian Selznick at Brooklyn By the Book

Where: Congregation Beth Elohim, 274 Garfield Pl., Park Slope
When: 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 to see Brian Selznick discuss his new book, “The Marvels.” Selznick is the author of “The Adventures of Hugo Cabret” and “Wonderstruck.” His latest work is “a century-spanning adventure tale of beauty, mystery, and survival told in [Selznick’s] signature style of writing and illustration,” according to Brooklyn by the Book.
