GREENPOINT — A man accused of groping a woman in Greenpoint laughed when the victim tried to fight back, police said.
The woman, 37, was walking her dog around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 23 near Freeman Street and Manhattan Avenue when a man approached her and slapped her bottom, police said.
The victim tried to pull out mace, and the man turned and ran a short distance away, police said.
But he then turned around and tried to take the mace away from the woman, leading to a physical altercation between the two, police said.
The woman yelled at the man, and the man laughed and fled again, police said.
He was described as 5-foot-8 and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt and blue jeans, police said.
Police are investigating the incident.
Similar touching incidents happened in Williamsburg and Greenpoint in the spring, with nearly a dozen women saying that they'd been groped or slapped by a man within a few weeks.
Brownsville man Joshua Griffith was ultimately charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse, forcible touching and public lewdness for several of the incidents. He has been relased on recognizance and has another court date on Tuesday.
It's not clear whether Greenpoint's groping incident is part of another pattern.
