CROWN HEIGHTS — A tractor trailer hit a man walking across the street in a Crown Heights Monday morning, police said.

The pedestrian, whose identity was not immediately released, was in the crosswalk heading westbound on St. John's Place when the truck, which has Illinois plates and was heading south on Utica Avenue, hit him about 10:28 a.m., according to NYPD Lieutenant Charlie Gee.

"A little after I opened the store, I heard a scream, 'Help! Help!'" said Mohammed Islam, 41, who manages a phone store across the street.

"I saw the truck outside. It had stopped already. I ran there and saw one gentleman under the truck. The lower part of his body was under the truck," Islam said.

"I asked him twice, 'Are you OK?' He shook his neck, but couldn't talk," the phone store clerk added.

An ambulance came shortly afterwards, Islam said.

"He couldn't talk. His eyes were closed," he added.

The pedestrian was listed in stable condition at Kings County Hospital, police said.

"I pray for him and I ask everyone to pray for him. I hope he should be all right," Islam said.

The driver remained on the scene, police said. There were no immediate arrests, an NYPD spokeswoman said.
