ROSEBANK — A man died after a blaze tore through a two-story home in Rosebank early Monday morning, police said.

The fire started at 21 Rosebank Place at about 2:34 a.m. and was put out about an hour later by the FDNY, officials said.

"I smelled the smoke and I saw the fire everywhere," said Barbara Filomeno, who lives next door to the house.

After the fire was put out, emergency workers found a 54-year-old man unconscious inside and took him to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Officials had not released the man's name as of Monday afternoon.

No other injuries were reported in the blaze and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
