PARK SLOPE — Burglars struck two Fifth Avenue restaurants on the same night but only stole from one of them, according to police reports.

Thieves broke into El Pollito Mexicano on Fifth Avenue and Sterling Place at 2:45 a.m. on Sept. 10 while the restaurant was closed. The burglars snuck in through a vent and stole $125 in cash and a cell phone, according to a police report.

Earlier that same night a burglar broke into Stone Park Cafe on Fifth Avenue and Third Street at 12:30 a.m. The would-be thief tried to pry open the cash register, but didn't steal anything.

Other notable crimes in this week's blotter at the 78th Precinct include the following, with details drawn from police reports:

► Two men were arrested in connection with the gunpoint robbery of a 24-year-old man on Seventh Street and Prospect Park West on Sept. 10 at 12:30 a.m.

► Six teens punched a 44-year-old woman and stole her boyfriend's phone outside the American Legion post on Ninth Street and Third Avenue on Sept. 11 at 8:45 p.m. The teens also punched the post's bartender.

► An employee at the CVS pharmacy on Ninth Street and Sixth Avenue was arrested after stealing $1,583 in cash and merchandise over a two month period.

► A thief snatched a cell phone out of a 47-year-old woman’s hand as she was walking on 10th Street between Third and Fourth avenues on Sept. 11 at 1:20 p.m.

Overall, major crimes in the 78th Precinct have increased 2.34 percent this year compared to the same period in 2014, according to the latest stats from the NYPD.
