PARK SLOPE — A professional actor and model was scammed out of $2,500 recently by thieves who claimed they wanted to hire him for a job with Life & Style magazine, according to a police report.

The 31-year-old victim received an email with the fake job offer, then got a $2,850 certified check in the mail. He was instructed to use the money to pay for new clothes and a stylist, according to the report.

The victim deposited the check, then withdrew $2,500 in cash from his account and wired $2,400 to two strangers in Pennsylvania to pay for shoes and clothing. Two days later he got a call from his bank informing him the certified check was fake and that his account was $2,500 in the red, according to the report.

Other recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with details drawn from police reports:


► A 20-year-old woman jumped in a cab with a stranger for a ride from Manhattan to downtown Brooklyn, and after the stranger got out at Flatbush and Atlantic avenues, the woman realized that her purse and iPhone were missing.

► A bike was stolen July 30 from an apartment building’s locked storage room with no signs of forced entry, leading the victim to believe that one of his neighbors could be responsible for the theft of his $3,700 Jamis Endura Elite.

► A 33-year-old woman had her purse and wallet stolen after she accidentally left them on a bench in Prospect Park near East Lake Drive and East Drive on Aug. 29 at 4:15. The thief got the victim’s MetroCard, cell phone, keys and $24 in cash.

► A $7,000 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen from in front of New York Methodist Hospital on Aug. 27 about 4:30 p.m.

► A 2011 Cadillac SRX was stolen Aug. 25 from in front of a house on 14th Street between Eighth Avenue and Prospect Park West after its owner parked it at 6:15 pm.

► A 30-year-old man was having a cup of coffee at Root Hill Café on Fourth Avenue and Carroll Street on Aug. 25 about 3 p.m. when a stranger leaned on his table and started asking questions about his computer. The man’s $250 Montblanc wallet was on the table, and when he later got up to leave, he realized the stranger had stolen it.
