BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — A new thin-crust pizza joint has opened in the former location of Pete's Waterfront Ale House with a staff of several employees from the old bar that shuttered last year.

Brado, at 155 Atlantic Ave., opened last week with a wide selection of house pies ranging from $7.50 to $14 for a personal size and $15 to $28 for a large as well as salads, pastas and small plates like bruschetta and crostinis. Custom pizzas are also available with a choice of toppings and base, including a nine-grain organic crust.

Produce, pasture-raised pork and Black Angus beef for Brado and the other restaurants is sourced from Midwinter Farms in Ancram, New York, Haegele said.

Antonio Gomez, a restaurateur who owns a group of pizzerias in Manhattan, including Gruppo in the East Village, Spunto in the West Village and Vezzo in Midtown East, took over the Atlantic Avenue space for his first Brooklyn venture, said bartender and manager Mary Haegele.

According to reports, neighbors had launched a petition last year calling for the re-hiring of longtime Pete's staff members.

Haegele had previously worked at Pete's Waterfront Ale House for 18 years before the bar closed in December 2014 after almost three decades in business. Seven other employees from the 27-year-old tavern also now work at Brado, she said.

The new pizzeria features 19 rotating beers on tap, including local brews such as Kelso, Other Half Brewery and Gun Hill Brewery, along with a selection of wines and cocktails.

Brado's daily happy hour from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. includes a free large plain pizza with any two house cocktails, a pitcher of beer or a bottle of wine. There's also a buy-one-get-one-free option on some drinks.
