QUEENS — A “major retailer” will replace Strawberry clothing store on Austin Street in Forest Hills, which closed earlier this year after more than two decades in business, a source said.

The source declined to say what store specifically will replace the teen clothing boutique, but said that the new retailer is expected to move in within a couple of months.

The two-story space at 71-24 Austin St., near Sephora and Victoria’s Secret, is currently undergoing extensive internal renovations, including a recently completed asbestos abatement.

When asked why the Strawberry location closed, a company spokeswoman said in an email that “the store closed because its lease expired.”

Several businesses on Austin Street, including Italian restaurant Pasta Del Giorno and bar Bonfire Grill, have closed in recent years.

The Forest Hills Barnes and Noble will also be closing in January next year after more than 20 years, because the bookstore chain was not able to reach an agreement with the landlord over its lease.
