FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A man was punched in the face and had his gold chain ripped from his neck as he walked near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal last week, police said.

The thief hit the 22-year-old Long Island man several times in the face, then snatched his $4,000 necklace, before running off on Saturday, police said.

The quick, late afternoon attack happened at the corner of State and Whitehall streets, a block from the ferry terminal, at about 4:45 p.m, according to a police report.

The man was left with bruises and swelling on the left side of his face.

Police were still investigating the robbery.
