LONGWOOD — A South Bronx Subway restaurant employee turned the tables on a robber who attacked him and helped himself to the eatery's cash register last weekend, chasing him away with a pipe, police said.

The suspect walked into the Subway on 1047 East 163rd St. in the 41st Precinct around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, attacked the employee, walked behind the counter and took an unknown amount of cash from the register, according to the NYPD.

Video released by police shows the suspect rifling through the cash register before the employee runs at him with a metal pipe and sends him tumbling over the countertop.

The suspect fled the scene, and EMS workers took the victim to a nearby hospital where he was treated for two cuts to his forehead, police said.

Officers described the suspect as a man with black hair standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was last seen in a blue t-shirt.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES), then entering TIP577.
