Friday, August 28

► “Interstellar” screening

Where: Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Ave., Astoria
When: 7 p.m.

Missed Christopher Nolan’s epic sci-fi odyssey when it was in the theaters? Catch it on the big screen at Museum of the Moving Image this Friday, part of the museum’s “See It Big!” series which features 70 mm films. Tickets are $12.

Saturday, August 29

 JCKidz Back-to-School Fashion Show: Kidz with Style and Confidence

Where: The 165th Street Mall in front of the Jamaica Colosseum Mall (rain location: Jamaica Performing Arts Center at 150-13 Jamaica Ave.), Jamaica
When: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Jamaica Center Business Improvement District is teaming up with teen designers and local stores to present the latest "back-to-school" clothing styles. During this free event, young models (ages 5-13) will walk the red carpet with DJ Dr. Bob Lee of WBLS and Hot 97's DJ Martian. 

► Queens Jazz Heritage Concert

Where: Louis Armstrong House Museum, 34-56 107th St., Corona
When: 2 p.m.

Come celebrate the jazz heritage of Queens. Dennis Lichtman, a Queens musician, and his Queensboro Six will perform his original compositions as well as music associated with famous jazz pioneers who lived in Queens, including Clarence Williams, Ella Fitzgerald, Bix Biederbecke, Bille Holiday, John Coltrane and Louis Armstrong. The event is free.

► Onipa Abusia: Dinizule and His African Dancers, Drummers and Singer

Where: Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning, 161-04 Jamaica Ave., Jamaica
When: 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Onipa Abusia, a local group promoting African cultural practices, presents a tribute to renowned percussionist Dinizulu and His African Dancers, Drummers and Singers. Musicians will demonstrate selections of the Dinizulu technique through dance and drum. Tickets are $10.

► Farm Tour at Queens Botanical Garden

Where: Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main St., Flushing
When: 2 p.m.

Curious about urban farming? Farmers at the Queens Botanical Garden will answer all your questions during a guided tour of the three-quarter-acre farm where they grow produce and compost food scraps. Free with garden admission ($4 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for students). To register, go here

We Heart Astoria at the LIC Flea

Where: LIC Flea & Food, 5-25 46th Ave., Long Island City
When: 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Citi Bike LIC Expansion Party

Where: Hunters Point South Park near the new Citi Bike station at Center Boulevard and Borden Avenue, Hunters Point
When: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Citi Bike finally made it to Queens! Celebrate the launch of the bike sharing program in Long Island City with this party, which will include face painting, free street safety classes from Bike New York, arts and crafts from Recycle-a-Bicycle, and fitness classes from the LIC YMCA.

Sunday, August 30

► Bike Path Ride for Adults

Where: Attendees meet behind the Corona Park Aquatic Center, 131-40 Fowler Ave., Flushing Meadows Corona Park
When: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Bike New York and Five Boro Bicycle Club (5BBC) are teaming up to give novice adult cyclists an opportunity to sharpen their skills. Join experienced 5BBC ride leaders for short and mostly flat group rides. You can bring your own bike, or borrow one of Bike New York’s. The event is free.
