“I’m not the leading fashionista in my household,” Mayor de Blasio said at a New York Fashion Week event this winter. “I’m fourth in terms of fashionista capacity.”

We're inclined to agree with him after seeing photos of the city's first family sending off Dante to Yale on Sunday for his first year of college in New Haven.

Pictures posted by First Lady Chirlane McCray on her official Tumblr, #FLONYC, show de Blasio wearing a pair of dark brown mandals.

"College is a challenge, but nothing you can’t handle," McCray wrote in an address to her son, a standout student in his senior class at Brooklyn Technical High School.

Granted admission to the 10 universities he applied to, Dante de Blasio chose Yale for its courses in history, political science and philosophy. His older sister, Chiara, attends Santa Clara University in California. Gracie Mansion will be an empty nest this fall.

"You [and Chiara] may be young adults now, wise beyond your years, but remember that for Bill and I, you’ll always be our babies," Chirlane added, for that "awww, mom" moment.

We hope Dante is wise enough to make better footwear choices than his dad.
