MARBLE HILL — The school that suffered damage from Thursday's gas explosion will not reopen in time for the first day of school on Sept. 9, Mayor Bill de Blasio said in an interview with 1010 WINS.

But he assured parents that all students would be placed in nearby schools for the beginning of the school year.

Students at the building's two charter schools, New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science and New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Humanities, start their academic year on Aug. 24 and will be relocated to the nearby In-Tech Academy at 2975 Tibbett Ave., the mayor told the radio station.

Thursday's explosion sent three workers to the hospital, one in serious condition. Officials suspect that it was started by a worker who lit a match to see if gas was coming out of a fuel line.
