EAST HARLEM — A man was stabbed to death and a woman was wounded during a knife fight on 125th Street Friday morning, according to police.

The dispute broke out at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue at about 8:10 a.m. when two couples started arguing, police said.

A man in his 30s from one couple pulled out box cutter and a 46-year-old man from the other couple then stabbed him, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

"He had blood on his t-shirt in the upper chest, lung area," said Michael Morgan, 46, after witnessing the dispute.

When the woman who was with the victim started swinging an umbrella at the accused stabber he slashed her in the neck, according to police and witnesses.

The victim died at the scene and the wounded woman was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition.

Police arrested the attacker at the scene. The 36-year-old woman he was with was uninjured.

Charges against him were pending, police said.

It was not immediately clear what led to the initial argument.

"I've seen both their faces around here before," Morgan said about the two men. "It's part of the streets, it's life."
