Where Does the LES Begin and End? Draw Your Neighborhood’s Boundaries

By Lisha Arino | August 11, 2015 7:10pm

LOWER EAST SIDE — Where does the Lower East Side begin and end?

The answer hasn’t always been clear, even to locals.

Some longtime residents insist the neighborhood extends up to East 14th Street — and that the East Village is just a real estate construct.

Others think its southwestern border goes past the Manhattan Bridge. East Broadway and Canal Street east of Pike Street are located in both the Lower East Side and Chinatown, depending on whom you ask.

Unfortunately, the city doesn’t have official neighborhood boundaries, so the debate will have to be settled another way — with DNAinfo’s new map tool.

Draw neighborhood’s boundaries and see if your neighbors agree when you've finished. We’ll also share the results once we get enough submissions.
