BROOKLYN — Hundreds of partygoers can dance through the summer at Brooklyn’s outdoor dance festivals.

DJ collective Soul Summit Music hosts free parties at Bed-Stuy’s Restoration Plaza and Fort Greene Park through October, bumping classic disco, house, Brazilian, Latin and jazz tunes for the family-friendly festivities.

Organizer and DJ Michael “Tabu” Anthony started throwing the celebration in 2001 at Cuyler Gore Park before moving to the larger, nearby venues.

“Me and my partners were doing our regular thing in the New York City clubs but decided we wanted to bring it outside and expose the music to people who otherwise wouldn’t hear it,” Anthony said.

“The music is probably nothing you would hear right now on the radio. People have called it the ‘electronic version of Woodstock.’”

For five hours, dancers can get down under the sun and shade. Attendees are welcome to bring food and blankets for a picnic-style party.

The event is meant to bring together individuals from all walks of life, Anthony added.

“I’m hoping that it breaks down all misconceptions about what people have of each other,” he said.

“Our parties have all different races and everyone from billionaires to fast food workers come to dance and express themselves.”

Soul Summit Music will host a festival at Fort Greene Park on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Parties at Restoration Plaza will take place on Aug. 23, Sept. 6, and Oct. 4.
