MANHATTAN — A mother on the phone with her husband was stabbed in the back by a stranger as she walked through Little Italy Tuesday, sources said.

Dieu Ho, 40, was outside 147 Mott St., near Grand Street, about 4:55 a.m. waiting for her husband who owns a fish store nearby, when a man stabbed her and fled, according to her family and sources.

Dieu Ho was talking to her husband on the phone when she suddenly started screaming, said their son Long Ho, 28. His father was less than a block away and raced to the scene and rushed his wife to the hospital, Long Ho said.

Dieu Ho was treated at Bellevue Hospital where she was listed in stable condition, sources said.

“Luckily there were no organs punctured," her son said. "She did get some stitches and she’s got an appointment at the hospital next week.”

The stabbing appeared to be unprovoked, sources said.

The suspect, who police said is in his late 20s, about 6 feet tall and 175 pounds, had not been arrested as of Tuesday afternoon, sources said.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, red sweat pants, white sneakers and a red and white drawstring backpack, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
