MANHATTAN — Two police officers ran into a Central Park lake and rescued a man who had been lying face down in the water, an NYPD spokesman said.

The officers spotted the 38-year-old man, who was drunk when he fell into the Harlem Meer, floating about 10 feet from shore about 11:15 p.m. and dove in to retrieve him, police said.

They performed chest compressions and the man, whose name was not immediately released, coughed up water but remained unresponsive, police said.

He was treated at St. Luke's Hospital where he was listed in serious condition, police said.
