PARK SLOPE — A hearing on a developer's plan to build condos and a new cinema at the Pavilion Theater has been postponed until Aug. 18.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission was originally scheduled to review Hidrock Realty's plans for a new five-story residential building on Prospect Park West and Bartel-Pritchard Square on Aug. 4, but the hearing was postponed until Aug. 18 "to allow the applicant and the public more time to prepare," an LPC spokeswoman said.

The LPC must approve Hidrock's plans for the project to move forward, and the developer will also need a zoning variance from the city's Board of Standards and Appeals.

Locals got their first look at Hidrock's plans at a recent Community Board 6 meeting, and many were unimpressed. Residents said the new building Hidrock wants to add to Bartel-Pritchard Square doesn't mesh well the area's existing architecture.

"The ground floor windows on the new building create large voids and do not harmonize well with the richly textured bases of the existing residential buildings," wrote Peter Bray, co-chair of the Park Slope Civic Council's Historic District Committee, in a letter to the LPC.

The Community Board 6 Landmarks & Land Use Committee asked the developer to tweak the plans; a spokesman for Hidrock said changes would be made to the project in response to local concerns.

The public can attend the Aug. 18 hearing to testify before the LPC in person, or they can submit comments via email that will be entered into the official record, a spokeswoman said. Comments should be sent to comments@lpc.nyc.gov.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission meets on the ninth floor of 1 Centre St. in Manhattan. For more information on the Aug. 18 agenda check here; for more information about testifying at an LPC hearing, check here.
