Readers took to social media this week to reminisce after hearing that punk rock fashion mecca Trash and Vaudeville was leaving St. Marks Place for a new spot a few blocks away.

For some readers, the move was a reminder of how much gentrification had changed St. Marks over the years.

► “This is ridiculous. St. Mark's Place used to be cool and dingy. Used to be a great place for music nuts and the like. Now it's just another glorified tourist trap that's been Disney-fied," wrote a commenter on DNAinfo. "Congrats tourist jerks, you've won.”

► One Facebook user said the shop "was one of the few remaining vestiges of the old East Village on the block."

"I know things change, but I hate why they're changing,” she wrote.

► Others, including Neighborhood Square user epicmarktv, said they were grateful the iconic clothier would remain in business.

“I'm pretty upset because it's an iconic spot and this was my biggest fear since so many cool spots moved or closed down that clearly belong in St. Marks but at least their [sic] not going out of business."

► But not all readers felt sentimental about the move, including this Facebook user:

"Change is part of life. A few blocks, get over it."

Trash and Vaudeville plans to move to 96 E. Seventh St. near First Avenue in the fall.
