JACKSON HEIGHTS — The owners of coffee shop Espresso 77 are looking to double its size by expanding next door — but they need the public's help to make it happen.

Owners Afzal Hossain and Julie Nymann opened Espresso 77 on 77th Street in 2007, becoming an immediate hit in Jackson Heights despite its small size. The independent coffee shop serves food, beer and wine in addition to coffee, and also hosts live music and displays local artwork.

The desire to expand has been expressed by customers, who have almost daily suggested they move into the space next door, the owners said.

While the owners have been saving for the expansion — with $70,000 already on hand — they'll need even more to maintain the space.

Espresso 77's growth would double the shop's size and allow it to offer even more, including food delivery, draft beer, a larger restroom, and a bigger selection of food and drink.

It will also add more seating inside and benches outside, as well as improve the air conditioning, the owners said.

They set up a fundraiser Thursday in the hope of raising $50,000 with support from customers, with rewards including a special renovation T-shirt, tote bag, gift cards for coffee, food and more.

A $500 donation offers a barista training from Hossein on their La Marzocco espresso machine, an invitation to E77's grand reopening party, and the T-shirt and tote bag.

In 2014 they opened a second shop in Park Slope.
