BOERUM HILL — A sweet new shop has opened on Smith Street with an array of housemade cakes, pastries, desserts as well as cold beverages and gelato to beat the heat.

Mia's Bakery, which took over the former location of Peruvian restaurant Coco Roco at 139 Smith St. earlier this year, held a soft opening this week, its co-owner Paris Asprou said.

The bakery makes its own cakes, cookies, cheesecakes and savory eats like feta pies. They also serve gelato and non-alcoholic beverages, including hot and cold coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Company.

Custom orders for cakes and desserts are also available, Asprou added.

This is the first location for Mia's Bakery, which is planning an official grand opening in September. Diners can choose from both indoor and outdoor backyard seating, and the entire eatery should soon have Wi-Fi.

Cookies, croissants, muffins and savory pies are priced from $3 to $5.95. Cakes are sold at $6.25 for a slice to $48 for a 10-inch cake. Gelato single scoops cost $4.25.

Mia's Bakery is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday to Wednesday and until 1 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Other openings and closings in the neighborhood include:

Bizio & Soci, an Italian clothing boutique, has closed its Carroll Gardens location at 308 Court St. The shop has moved to a Park Slope space at 234 Fifth Ave.
