MEATPACKING DISTRICT — Late-night fisticuffs between two men escalated into an all-out brawl outside the Standard Grill, police said.

Two women, ages 20 and 24, and two men, 24 and 31, walking back to their car were assaulted by three men, two 21-year-olds and a 20-year-old, about 3:25 a.m. on July 19, police said.

The two groups got into an argument, which became physical when the 24-year-old man walking to the car and the 20-year-old man standing outside the restaurant started punching each other, police said.

The 20-year-old was pulled away by one of his 21-year-old friends, police said, but the pair ended up just attacking the 24-year-old again, both punching him repeatedly.

The 31-year-old man tried to intervene and stop the fight, but was punched in the face by one of the alleged attackers, police said.

The 24-year-old woman tried to intervene next, but was punched in the face by the other 21-year-old who had been standing outside the restaurant, police said.

The 24-year-old woman fell to the ground, and her 21-year-old alleged attacker grabbed her by the neck and started to strangle her and then punched her in the face again, police said.

Police said the second 21-year-old man also punched the 20-year-old woman in the back of her head.

His friends kept punching and kicking the 24-year-old man involved in the initial attack, until one of them — the other 21-year-old — walked over to the 31-year-old who had initially intervened, and kicked him repeatedly as he lay prone, police said.

Police said that alleged attacker also grabbed the 20-year-old woman's purse, which was lying on the ground, and walked away with it.

The 20-year-old woman whose purse was stolen ended up with a scratched left knee and an aching head, while the 24-year-old woman, who had been choked, had a strained and swollen neck and a swelling around her face.

The 24-year-old man in the initial attack was left bloody, bruised and with a swollen and bleeding mouth and lip, police said. His 31-year-old friend had his tooth knocked out of its socket and had bloody gashes all over his face, police said.

All three of the alleged attackers were charged with gang assault in the second degree, robbery in the second degree, one count of assault in the second and four of assault in the third degree, petit larceny, and four counts of attempted assault in the third degree.

Their lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The 20-year-old is being held on $5,000 bail, and the 21-year-old who police said took the woman's purse is being held on $20,000 bail, according to court records.

Records show the other 21-year-old, who police said attacked the two women, is being held on $25,000 bail.

All three are due back in court on July 24.
