Thief Snags Park Slope Suitcase Filled With $9K of Designer Clothes: NYPD

PARK SLOPE — A thief snagged a $9,000 haul of designer clothes by walking off with a suitcase that had just been unloaded from a taxi on Park Place near Fifth Avenue, according to a police report.

The theft happened at 7:45 p.m. on July 7 as a husband and wife were taking their luggage out of a cab and moving it into their apartment.

The stolen rolling suitcase contained a $380 pair of Tom Ford sunglasses, $587 gold earrings and assorted designer dresses, jumpsuits, hats and athletic apparel, according to the report.

Other notable crimes in this week's blotter at the 78th Precinct include the following, with details from police reports:

► An employee at L'Albero dei Gelati had his $1,300 laptop stolen when he left it on the counter while he ducked into the kitchen.

► A 19-year-old cabbie left his taxi unlocked with the keys in the ignition while he went into a deli on Fifth Avenue and 15th Street to get coffee and returned to find the car had been stolen. A GPS tracking system helped police recover the car later on Newkirk Avenue in Staten Island.

► A thief smashed the rear driver-side window on a 2008 Nissan sedan parked at Gregory Place and Baltic Street and stole a GPS system, credit card and Brooklyn Public Library card at about 9 p.m. on July 5.

► Two thieves took a $3,000 Spartan 300 drain cleaning machine out of the back of a van that belongs to a plumbing business on Third Street near Bond Street on July 9 about 1:15 p.m.
