CHINATOWN — A 78-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a dump truck near the Manhattan Bridge off ramp Friday afternoon, police said.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was crossing Canal Street at Bowery when the T-mak Services Inc. truck pulled off the bridge and struck him about 12:30 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at Lower Manhattan Hospital, police said.

The driver, whose identity was not immediately released, was not arrested, NYPD officials said.

The green truck, with Yosemite Sam and the phrase "Back Off!" emblazoned across the back, remained on the scene.

New Jersey-based T-mak Services Inc. did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
