TRIBECA — A Bronx man who blamed his former coworker for getting him fired smashed the ex-colleague in the head with a bottle and beat his friend, too, police said.

One of the victims, a 24-year-old Bronx man, told police that he and his friend were walking to a store near Hudson and Reade Streets after work about 3:50 a.m. on July 8 when the attack happened.

The former coworker began an argument with the victim, blaming him for losing his job. The fight quickly escalated, with the ex-coworker smashing a beer bottle over the man's head. He fell to the street, and the attacker continued to punch and kick him, with help from three other men. The victim said he soon went unconscious after hitting the ground.

Meanwhile, the victim's friend ran to get help, and began calling 911, but several of the attackers ran after him.

The men tripped him, stole his phone and wallet, then proceeded to kick and punch him as well. The attackers ran off before police arrived.

Both victims were treated at Bellevue.

Police are still investigating the incident. Details about the men's workplace were not immediately available.
