CHELSEA — Beginning in August, The Rubin Museum will offer a dose of mindfulness during lunchtime on Wednesdays.

The Rubin Museum focuses on the art and culture of the Himalayas and South Asian countries such as Nepal and India, where meditation has long been a part of life.

"Himalayan practitioners have, for centuries, used meditation to quiet the mind, open the heart, calm the nervous system, and increase one’s ability to focus," the museum's website says. "Now, Western scientists, business leaders and the secular world have embraced meditation as a vital tool for brain health."

The weekly meditation series will feature well-known teacher Sharon Salzberg and others from the New York Insight Meditation Center. Each session will be inspired by a different work of art from the museum's collection, and will include an opening talk, a 20-minute sitting session, and a closing discussion, according to the museum's website.

Sessions will run from 1 to 1:45 p.m. beginning August 5. Tickets are $15 for the public or free for museum members. The museum is located at 150 W. 17th St.
