BOERUM HILL — After seven years on Smith Street, Char No. 4 is closing its doors.

The well-known bourbon bar will serve its last dinner on July 12, proprietor Sean Josephs told his patrons in an email Thursday afternoon.

"We have had an amazing 7 years in business during which time we have made so many great friends and served our share of bourbon and smoked meat," he said.

It was not immediately clear why the restaurant at 196 Smith St. was shuttering. Management was not immediately available to comment.

The bar, known for its comprehensive collection of whiskey and bourbon, was listed in the Village Voice's 99 Essential Restaurants in Brooklyn in 2014.

Char No. 4 will offer a limited menu during its last days in the neighborhood, with local favorites and specials that they've served past Wednesday nights.

"Let's celebrate what has been a tremendous run by raising our glasses and enjoying the spirit that was the foundation of this great adventure," Josephs said in the email.
