8 Things to Do in Queens This Weekend

 A beachside bazaar, family camping and a fireworks-filled night market are on in store this weekend.

Friday, July 3

Reckouwacky Fest Riis Park Bazaar

Where: 157 Rockaway Beach Blvd., Neponsit 

This festival, hosted by Kreative Natives, highlights local bands, artists and vendors at the new Riis Park Bazaar. The first fest is Friday, July 3 and will feature music by The Skells, Lorena Leigh and the Dinosaurs and Beach Rat NYC. Locals Surf School, End of the A Boutique, Lola Star and more Rockaway businesses will set up to sell goods. It starts at 2 p.m. and goes "til late."

Free First Fridays at the Noguchi Museum

Where: Noguchi Museum, 9-01 33rd Rd., Long Island City

The museum offers free admission to visitors the first Friday of the month, along with tours of the galleries in English and Japanese starting at 2 p.m. The museum will also be open late, until 8 p.m., featuring a cash bar serving wine and beer.

Saturday, July 4

Family Camping at Fort Totten Park

Where: Fort Totten Park, 422 Weaver Ave., Bayside

Connect with nature, learn to build a fire and bond with your kids at a family camp in Fort Totten Park. Urban Park Rangers will help participants set up the tents, which are provided, although campers must bring their own sleeping bags and bedding. The free event runs from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Space is limited and families are chosen by lottery.

Fourth of July Yoga on the Beach

Where: 108th Street and Rockaway Beach

Kick off your holiday weekend with a mix of mountain and tree poses with a free oceanfront yoga class. Instructor Helen Kilgallen will teach this beginner Hatha yoga class right on the sand from 8 to 9 a.m. Bring a mat, a large towel or blanket and enjoy your sun salutations in front of the relaxing ocean. Then go and eat as many barbecued hot dogs as you want.

Louis Armstrong's Birthday Celebration with Live Music

Where: Louis Armstrong House and Museum, 34-56 107th St., Corona

Celebrate Satchmo's birthday on July 4 with live music from the Ladybugs in the garden of his former home in Corona. The band will be the first in the summer's "Hot Jazz, Cool Garden" series. The show begins at 2 p.m. and tickets are $18.

Night Market at LIC Flea

Where: LIC Flea and Food, 5-25 46th Ave., Long Island City

Do some nighttime shopping and take in the Macy's fireworks show at this outdoor market, which will be open late until 10:30 p.m. for the July 4th holiday. Grab some grub from one of the market's many food vendors and have a drink at its beer garden, which features brews made exclusively in Queens.

Sunday, July 5

Alley Pond Park Adventure Course

Where: Alley Pond Park, 228-06 Northern Blvd., Douglaston

If your family enjoys outdoor thrills, the Alley Pond Park Adventure Course offers everything you need, including a "zip-line," a climbing and bouldering wall, swings, nets, leaps and balance platforms. There are activities for ages 8 and up and all fitness levels. The free program runs from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and promotes teambuilding and problem–solving skills. Space is limited and you have to pre-register. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.

Drop-In Family Workshop: Building Bridges

Where: Queens Museum, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens

Families can head to the museum and build a miniature city block and bridges with common materials, then connect other blocks to build their own model of the city. The workshop is free with admission to the museum, and geared toward kids 5 to 12. It also offers a first-hand look at the museum's galleries and studios. Runs from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
