BROOKLYN — Several manhole fires on Bergen Street triggered a slew of subway delays and service changes Wednesday afternoon, the MTA said.

The delays began around 4 p.m., a spokeswoman for the MTA said.

No F trains were running between the Jay Street and 4th Avenue stations, and there was no G train service between the Bedford-Nostrand and Church Avenue stations, the MTA said.

Frustrated commuters took to Twitter to air their concerns.

One commuter was traveling from Jamaica to Bay Ridge for a dinner celebrating the end of Ramadan, but because the F train was running local all throughout Queens and it took him an hour and a half just to get to West 4th Street.

"It was horrendous. The train was stopping for five to ten minutes between stations," said Hamid Kherief, 62. "We are late for a big event."

Crews were working on installing a generator in the hope of restoring service, but the MTA suggested that commuters delay their trips home.

A Con Ed spokeswoman said that crews were on location making repairs and that the cause is under investigation.

Commuters should expect delays on the A, C, D, F, G, N and R lines, as well, the MTA said.
