Netflix's 'Orange is the New Black' Filming in Astoria Again

ASTORIA — The ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary are in Queens this week, as Netflix's hit show "Orange is New Black," is filming scenes around Astoria.

Crews for the prison-based TV series were set up Wednesday along 30th Avenue and 36th Street, complete with cameras, a catering spread and director's chairs with the hit show's logo printed on the back.

A rack of costumes was set up in the back of one truck, where a costume NYPD uniform was spotted among the rest of the wardrobe.

The show will also be filming on several streets around Vernon Boulevard on Thursday, according to a flier one resident posted on Twitter.

"They're once again filming #ointb by my apt and now that I'm on vacation I'm really hoping to run into some actresses," another user posted.

It's not the first time the series, which is filming it's fourth season, has used Astoria as its backdrop. The show films at Kaufman Astoria Studios, where actress Dascha Polanco — who plays inmate Daya — was on hand in 2013 to help unveil the studios' first outdoor set.

Local blog We Heart Astoria has also chronicled scenes from the show that were shot in the neighborhood, including well-known locales like Astoria Park and Rosario's Deli.
