LOWER EAST SIDE — The neighborhood’s history, filtered through the experiences of some of its oldest residents, will be front and center Thursday night as part of the closing of an interactive art project called “Moving Stories.”

The project — which began in May and was included in the New Museum’s IDEAS CITY festival — has encouraged older residents to share their stories of growing up and living in the Lower East Side through senior citizen-led walking tours, said artist Laura Nova, who worked with seniors from the Weinberg Center for Balanced Living at the Manny Cantor Center.

Some of the stories shared during the tours will be shown in a 35-minute documentary Thursday night, Nova said, followed by additional live storytelling from six seniors coached by The Moth’s community outreach program. Light refreshments will also be served.

“I think it’s going to be a great celebration of the Lower East Side community,” Nova said.

The "Moving Stories" screening and final performance will take place Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Manny Cantor Center, located at 197 East Broadway. Admission is free.
