Monday, June 22

The New York Philharmonic in the Park

Where: Cunningham Park, Fresh Meadows

The New York Philharmonic's annual weeklong tour of the City's parks has a long history of bringing free classical music concerts to all five boroughs. Monday catch them from 8 p.m. at Cunningham Park in Queens, then Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Tuesday, June 23 from 8 p.m. with an indoor concert in Staten Island's Music Hall at Snug Harbor on June 24, also at 8 p.m. All performances by The New York Philharmonic are preceded by presentations by local musicians. Free.

The Beer Cocktail Showdown

Where: Brooklyn Brewery, 79 North 11th St., Williamsburg

Brooklyn Brewery’s hosting several mixologists to make cocktails out of their seasonal beers as part of an open bar. With bartenders from Huckleberry Bar to Featherweight, you’re bound to find a couple beer cocktails you can drink all night. Tickets are $27.50 and the event runs 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Storytelling at The Montrose Bar

Where: The Montrose, 47 Fifth Ave., Park Slope

Join the Creators Collective for the first night in a four week storytelling series, with a different theme and new storytellers each week. Free. The event starts 8 p.m.

Marchesa Sample Sale

Where: Starrett-Lehigh building at 601 W. 26th St., suite 1420 in Chelsea

Couture brand Marchesa is holding a sample sale at the Starrett-Lehigh building, where they are headquartered. Original samples, couture, bridal, and handbags will be 75 to 90 percent off. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

River to River Festival's Night at the Museums

Where: Various locations Downtown

River To River Festival, running through to June 28, is a great way to experience the waterfronts, parks, plazas, hotels, historic landmarks, temporarily vacant office spaces, and other sites downtown. This evening the Festival is presenting Night At The Museums, an opportunity to discover where New York City’s history and culture began, through free admission at 15 distinctive museums and cultural institutions in Lower Manhattan. Participating institutions include the African Burial Ground, Federal Hall, the National September 11 Memorial Museum and many more. Check here for the full list. From 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Kaufman Music’s Winners Showcase for the International Youth Piano Competition

Where: Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center, 129 W. 67th St. on the Upper West Side

The winners of the week-long Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition will perform in this showcase, which features young people from around the world. The event is free, no tickets required.

Family Movie Night at Pride

Where: Hudson River Park, Pier 63 in Chelsea

Free screening of "Finding Nemo" hosted by Miss Richfield 1981. No tickets necessary. For VIP blanket family ticket $79, Ultra VIP sectional couch seating $1,500. The movie begins at 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, June 24

Arab Spring Discussion at Brooklyn Brainery

Where: 190 Underhill Ave. in Prospect Heights

Using Tunisia as a specific case study, “The Arab Spring, Four Years Later: Where are we now and how did we get here?” a discussion at the Brooklyn Brainery, will examine how the Arab Spring has unfolded over the past four years, explain why it did so, and explore where the region is headed. Presented by Jordan Reimer from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. From 8:30 p.m. until 10 p.m., $10, registrations essential.

Drink + Draw with Rachel Klinghoffer

Where: Abrons Arts Center, 466 Grand St. on the Lower East Side

Artists of all skill levels can stop by for an informal drawing session that will involve surrealist and contemporary drawing parlor games led by artist Rachel Klinghoffer. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite libation, picnic-style food and their favorite drawing and collaging materials to the adults-only event. Paper, glue, scissors and drawing tools will be provided. 7-9 p.m. Tickets are $10.

Dominican Film Festival

Where: Alumni Auditorium at 650 West 168th Street in Washington Heights

This festival, which is now in its fourth year, kicks off Wednesday night with a showing of "Sand Dollars." The film, which stars award-winning actress Geraldine Chaplin, explores the relationship between a young Dominican woman and a wealthier, older European woman. Other highlights include the “Dominicans in Diaspora” and “Short Films, Big Stories,” showcases. The festival runs through June 28. Opening reception at 6:30 p.m. Film screens at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for the screening and opening night reception, $12 for general admission to other films.

The Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series

Where: Socrates Sculpture Park, 2-01 Vernon Blvd in Long Island City

City Parks Foundation hosts a free performance of opera arias and duets, featuring singers from the Metropolitan Opera. From 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Thursday, June 25

BAM R&B Festival

Where: MetroTech Commons, Downtown Brooklyn   

Spend your lunch break listening to 1980s R&B singer Al B. Sure! as he croons with his “signature falsetto” and “bedroom lyricism,” according to the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. The musician is known for his collaborations with Diana Ross, Slick Rick, Jodeci, and Quincy Jones. Free, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Gowanus Greenspace Forum

Where: Gowanus Alliance rooftop, 135 13th St., Gowanus

Want more parks and trees in Gowanus? Join the Gowanus Canal Conservancy and Gowanus Alliance for this  forum about planning the future of Gowanus’ open spaces. 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., free.

Band “Recess Monkey” Performs Free Outdoor Kids Concert

Where: Madison Square Park in the Flatiron

Description: Recess Monkey, the popular Seattle-based band, is celebrating the release of its 12th album with a a free concert in Madison Square Park. 11:30 a.m., free.

Classes on the Cobbles

Where: Gansevoort Plaza in the Meatpacking District

The Meatpacking Improvement Association is hosting outdoor exercise classes in Gansevoort Plaza every other Thursday now through September as part of their goal to encourage “new use of an old space.” Classes range from bootcamp to yoga and take place at various times in the evening, starting at 5:30 p.m. The classes are free but but you must register here

“King Kong” outdoor screening

Where: Hunters Point Park South, 52-10 Center Blvd. in Long Island City   

The Hunters Point Park Conservancy is teaming up with realtors NestSeekers International and local eatery LIC Landing to host a series of outdoor movies in the park, with a free screening of the original “King Kong” scheduled for Thursday night. Film starts at sunset.
