EAST HARLEM — A woman was struck by a taxi while crossing an East Harlem street Wednesday morning.

The woman, whose name and age were not immediately released by officials, was crossing First Avenue at 100th Street about 7:30 a.m. when the taxi turned onto First and hit her, witnesses said.

"She was walking east right in the middle of the crosswalk and he turned right into her," said David London, 51.

"You heard a boom. She stood up for a minute, then she realized she was hit and went down," London said.

She was shaking and conscious, but not bleeding, when EMS took her to Metropolitan Hospital, according to London and an FDNY spokesman. Her condition was not immediately clear.

The taxi remained on the scene.

NYPD and Taxi and Limousine Commission officials said they did not immediately have further information.
