STATEN ISLAND — A reputed member of the Bloods is being sought for last month's shooting of an elderly Staten Island couple in New Brighton, police said.

On May 3, a 71-year-old man and his wife, 63, were outside their home at Crescent Avenue and Jersey Street at 5:30 p.m. when a group of dirt bikers rode up to them, according to the NYPD.

Joshua Burgos, 26, jumped off one of the bikes and fired multiple rounds from a .40 caliber handgun, hitting the man in his stomach and the woman in the left forearm, police said. Burgos then fled in an unknown direction.

The bullet went clean through the husband, who was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in critical but stable condition, police said. The wife was also taken to the hospital in stable condition and they were both later released, police said.

A spokesman for the NYPD said the shooting appeared to follow a dispute between two groups which the elderly couple were not believed to be a part of.

Burgos has an extensive criminal record, police said, and was last arrested in December after he drove his Honda Civic into oncoming traffic to pass a car, causing a school bus to swerve.

When Burgos was stopped by police, he reversed his car and hit a sergeant in the arm with his side mirror, cutting his hand, then crashed into an NYPD van before he was arrested, according to court papers.

Police described Burgos as a 5-foot-8 and 230 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
