BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A new Bed-Stuy bakery will bring a little Haitian flavor to Halsey Street this summer.

Kafe L’Ouverture is set to open in July at 392 Halsey St., the former home of Chaitty Coffee Shop.

Owners Anthony Cunningham and Joanne Saget said they wanted to bring Saget’s Haitian hometown to Brooklyn with a variety of patties, mangoes, fresh coconuts and salads.

“We won’t just sell coffee, it’s an experience,” Cunningham, 38, said. “People can brace themselves for an amazing trip you won’t need a passport for.”

Kafe L’Ouverture will feature imported paintings and music, and patrons will be able to buy trinkets and mugs to support Haitian artists.

Chicken, beef, fish, vegetable and shrimp patties will be made in-house, starting at $2.50 a piece, Cunningham said. Customers can also pick up French pastries and paninis.

In the near future, the husband-and-wife team is looking to offer tours of Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite in Haiti, where Saget owns 200 acres of farmland. The tours will be advertised in the cafe to encourage visitors to her native land.

“We wanted to find a way to support the amazing artists in Haiti, but also the farmers and their families that work there,” Cunningham said.

“Eventually people will be able to see the countryside and really experience the rich culture. We’re first going to bring it to Brooklyn, then take it a step further.”
