QUEENS — A new craft brewery will open in Long Island City this week during the borough's official celebration of beer.

LIC Beer Project, located at 39-28 23rd St. in Queensbridge, will debut during the second annual Queens Beer Week, a nine-day festival that will run from May 8 to 17 at venues across the borough.

Beer lovers will be able to taste brews from the new spot at Astoria bar Crescent and Vine on Friday and during an open house event at the brewery on May 16.

"They're all Belgian-inspired beers," said Queens Beer Week organizer Dan Bronson, who described the offerings as "incredible, delicate" ales. "Just really the next-level stuff."

Other Queens Beer Week events will include a "Ridgewood Beer Bar Scavenger Hunter" on May 9 with Bridge and Tunnel Brewery founder Rich Castagna. Castagna will lead imbibers on a search through neighborhood watering holes like The Monk, Julia's and Onderdonk and Sons.

On May 14, Astoria brewery SingleCut Beersmiths will screen "Blood, Sweat and Beer," a documentary about the growing craft beer industry.

And on May 16, Long Island City's four local breweries — Big Alice Brewing, Rockaway Brewing Company, Transmitter Brewing and newcomer LIC Beer Project — will offer tours and samples during an LIC Brewers Open-House.

Bronson said Queens has become a hub for craft brewers because of its cheap real estate prices, availability of industrial spaces and a community that's "really receptive" to new brewers.

"It's a really supportive neighborhood," he said, adding that each brewery in the borough offers a different style of beer, be it Farmhouse ales or IPAs.

"The thing I really like about Queens is that everybody has really become specialized," he said. "Everyone has their own little niche."
