Man Threatens LES Creperie Employee and Smashes Fridge, Police Say

LOWER EAST SIDE — A man smashed a Ludlow Street eatery’s refrigerator and threatened an employee on April 15 after she asked him to leave, police said.

Police said he entered Creperie NYC, located at 135 Ludlow St. around 1:39 a.m. and asked the 64-year-old female worker for a bag. He then began to make a mess on the counter, police said.

The employee asked the man “to do that somewhere else,” which angered him, according to the NYPD. He broke the display refrigerator under the counter and then threatened the employee with a chair before leaving, police said.

The man was about 55 years old and 5-foot-7 with short brown hair, according to the NYPD.

Creperie NYC did not immediately return a request for comment.

Other recent crimes in the 7th Precinct include:

► Police found Dwain Williams in possession of a missing Citi Bike on April 17 at the southeast corner of Grand and Henry streets after an officer spotted him urinating on the sidewalk at 8:45 p.m.

Williams said he did not rent the bike, explaining that his son gave him the bike to grab a pizza on the corner of Hester Street, according to a criminal complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. He said he had the bike for an hour, the complaint said.

Williams also said he did not know his son’s phone number and that the son’s phone was not working, the complaint said.

A Citi Bike representative told police the bike had been missing since 4:47 p.m. the day before, according to the NYPD.

Williams was charged with criminal possession and urinating in public. Bail was set at $1,000 cash or bond, according to the District Attorney’s office. He is due in court on May 26, according to WebCrims.

Williams attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

► A 23-year-old man with multiple “fresh and actively bleeding” injuries approached a fire truck at Rutgers and Madison street on April 18 at about 5 p.m. and asked for help, police said.

The man, who was taken to Bellevue Hospital, was slashed on his mid-thigh as well as on his left ear and the back of his upper left arm, according to the NYPD. Police said the there were also injuries to the back of his neck and right shoulder.

The victim would not cooperate with police, according to the NYPD.

► A 47-year-old man was “bleeding profusely” from his stomach, back, arm and the back of head after 22-year-old Cesar Polanco stabbed him multiple times in front of 92 Rivington St. at 3:45 a.m. on April 15, according to a criminal complaint.

Police said the victim was on his way to a store when Polanco came up to him and said “What you want to do” before stabbing him six times. Polanco then ran northbound on Ludlow Street where police apprehended him, according to the NYPD.

Polanco has been charged with attempted assault and attempted murder, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. Bail was set for $100,000 cash or bond, the office said. His next court appearance is May 20, according to WebCrims.

Polanco's attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
